Hearing with all your “Xenses” – Sensorial Theme Park in Cancun, México

Xenses is a park like no other, a place where anyone can be the star of their own story, an amazing, enigmatic and magical place.

That was how the experience at Xenses was for Maria Cristina Olamendi. During her first visit to the Experiencias Xcaret’s new park, Maria Cristina, a native of California, USA and having Mexican roots, managed to discover and perceive herself and her surroundings as never before.

Maria Cristina was born with a profound deafness and was the first young Latina in the United States to receive a cochlear implant, a small device that transforms acoustic signals into electrical signals and stimulates the auditory nerve. These electrical signals are processed through different parts of the cochlear implant, allowing her to hear better.

During her tour at the Xensatorium, Maria Cristina lived a moment “which had never before experienced.” She was able to feel and listen, as she had never before imagined, all without perceiving anything through her eyes. “I heard everything, I felt everything, I smelled it all! It was incredible, spectacular,” said Maria Cristina.

“It’s a unique experience, where you can connect with all your senses in a way that you’re not normally accustomed to. For the deaf community I would recommend it, for deaf people, for all to come here and experience what I’ve experienced, it’s amazing!
