Experiencias Xcaret Presents Report with Results in Sustainable Management

QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO; JUNE 2017.- Grupo Experiencias Xcaret presented its 2016 Sustainability Report, in which it lists the most relevant achievements registered in its management, whose main axes are People, Planet and Prosperity.

During the presentation, the Vice President of Experiences Xcaret, Carlos Constandse said that this document strengthens the commitment to management transparency of the group in all areas, because “today sustainability is not an option, it is a necessity,” and said the organization will continue working hard in that direction.

Experiencias Xcaret assumes sustainability as the creation of balanced economic, sociocultural and environmental values which ensures the harmonious growth of the business and the environment. In this way it is possible to continue offering, over time, unique tourist experiences inspired by a respect for nature, culture and life.

In the dimension People, all the actions that have to do with the coworkers and the communities where they have presence in are considered. In Planet, all actions in favor of the environment are considered. And in Prosperity, it refers to the economic performance of the business that affects mainly in the local and national arenas. This model has intersections, which are aspects where two dimensions converge.

The actions and programs are aligned to the Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS), with which Experiencias Xcaret contributes to the fulfillment of the 2030 agenda established by the United Nations (UN).

In this regard, Carlos Constandse says, “All the operations of our parks and tours are attached to good practices for the care of the environment. Wastewater treatment, we recycle almost 80% of the waste generated, the global average is 50%, we have environmental management systems with the efficient use of energy, and we fully preserve all the ecosystems in which we operate: tropical jungle, sea and beach, coastal dune, mangrove swamp, reef, cenotes, caves and cove.”

Thanks to this adequate management, Constandse says, our parks are internationally EarthCheck Certified and the Hotel Xcaret México, which is about to be finished, is the first in the Americas that will be erected with EarthCheck certification by adhering to international best practices in aspects related to the environment.

Regarding the impact that the organization generates in Quintana Roo, Carlos Constandse said, “We positively impacted more than 4,200 families of employees and generated more than 16,000 indirect jobs in Cancun and the Riviera Maya. Ninety-eight percent of our suppliers are small and medium-sized companies located in the region and in Mexico. All Quintana Roo residents have direct 50% discount on access to our experiences throughout the year. We have programs that have a positive impact on the environmental education of young children in Quintana Roo. Our social tourism program benefits more than 10,000 people every year, with free access to the group’s parks.

“We promote the recovery of a pre-Hispanic tradition that had fallen into oblivion, the Sacred Prehispanic Journey, which integrates music and dance rituals to the feat of crossing the Caribbean Sea on board canoes, to go to Cozumel to worship the goddess Ixchel. Every year we celebrate the Festival of Life and Death Traditions of Xcaret, which honors the millennial celebration of the respect for the dead, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.”

Grupo Experiencias Xcaret has been a leader in sustainable tourism recreation for more than 25 years. It annually receives more than 3 million visitors and in its offering includes seven parks, a division of tours to the archaeological sites of the Yucatan Peninsula, and in December 2017 will inaugurate its first hotel of 900 rooms.
