Xcaret Park inaugurates the 18th edition of the Festival of Life and Death Traditions.

Xcaret, Riviera Maya, October 31, 2024. Today, Xcaret opens its doors to the 18th edition of the Festival of Life and Death Traditions, one of the most iconic celebrations dedicated to the Day of the Dead—an event recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

From October 30 to November 3, the festival will bring together over 960 artists across 330 events that blend music, dance, theater, and gastronomy, offering attendees a deep immersion into Mexican traditions and customs. This year, the state of Quintana Roo is the guest of honor, showcasing its cultural heritage and ancestral traditions, which will enrich the festival’s activities.

As always, music plays a central role in the Festival of Life and Death Traditions. Singer-songwriter Silvana Estrada will perform on October 30 and 31 with her concert “Ofrenda” (Offering), a sonic journey that evokes life and death through her intimate, emotive melodies.

In this edition of Xcaret’s Festival of Life and Death, Reik—one of Latin pop’s most prominent bands—will make their debut on the Gran Tlachco stage on the night of November 2. The trio, consisting of Jesús Navarro, Julio Ramírez, and Bibi Marín, has captivated audiences worldwide and now arrives with their “Panorama Tour” to delight the crowd. Attendees will enjoy an unforgettable experience featuring a selection of the band’s greatest hits and new songs in this iconic venue.

The festival will also feature significant theatrical performances, such as “El Camino del Colibrí” (The Path of the Hummingbird). This show blends pre-Hispanic dance, opera, and circus elements to tell the legend of the hummingbird and the cempasúchil (marigold) flower, inviting the audience to reflect on the connection between life and nature. Additionally, the play “¿Duermen los Peces?” (Do Fish Sleep?) will offer a moving look at grief from a family-oriented and reflective perspective. Food enthusiasts can enjoy a culinary selection featuring over 50 traditional regional dishes across 18 food stalls throughout the event, offering an authentic exploration of local flavors. Additionally, 22 spaces will be dedicated to the sale of handicrafts and local products, showcasing the talent of artisans from Quintana Roo and other parts of Mexico.

The Festival of Life and Death Traditions offers a comprehensive experience with family-friendly activities that connect visitors to Mexico’s deepest roots. From traditional Mayan altars and pre-Hispanic cooking workshops to interactive activities, every corner of the festival becomes a window into traditions that celebrate both life and death.

While Xcaret Park serves as the festival’s main venue, the celebration will also extend to Hotel Xcaret Arte, Hotel Xcaret México, and La Casa de la Playa, as well as the Teatro de la Ciudad and the Domo Villas del Sol in Playa del Carmen.
