The Xcaret Fair of Mexican Folk Art, the only one of its kind in Mexico, will hold its second edition in September 2025.

Xcaret, Quintana Roo; January 21, 2025. Grupo Xcaret is pleased to announce the Xcaret Mexican Folk Art Fair, to be held from September 25 to 28, 2025, at Xcaret Park. This unique event brings together leading figures and emerging artists of Mexican folk art—artisans who are true bearers of the cultural traditions of their home communities—in a single location.

Following the success of the inaugural edition, which gathered 140 of Mexico’s most outstanding artisans, this year’s event aims to match or exceed that number, solidifying its status as the country’s most important folk art event.

This second edition will feature new participants who will further enrich the cultural and artistic experience of Mexican folk traditions. As in the previous year, the best works will be awarded prizes across four categories; additionally, a special thematic category inspired by the “Virgin of Guadalupe” is being introduced for the first time, bringing the total number of award categories to five:

The four award categories for the “Xcaret: Yesterday and Today” contest—focused on the techniques and materials used in the works entered in the 2025 Xcaret Mexican Folk Art Fair—are Ceramics, Textiles, Wood, and Other Techniques. The prizes for each category are as follows: first place receives $100,000, second place $80,000, and third place $60,000; several honorable mentions of $20,000 will also be awarded. For the additional thematic category inspired by the “Virgin of Guadalupe,” awards will be given to the three best works, regardless of the technique used.

“This event is part of our commitment to ‘making the planet happier by sharing our great love for Mexico,’ promoting and celebrating folk art annually during the month of national pride. Through this fair, we seek not only to highlight our country’s cultural richness but also to strengthen ties with artisan communities and provide them with a worthy space to showcase their talent,” stated Leticia Aguerrebere, Director of Corporate Art and Culture at Grupo Xcaret.

This second edition aims to further strengthen connections with architects, interior designers, collectors, galleries, academics, and students. Attendees will enjoy keynote speeches, expert panels, lectures, demonstrations of artisan techniques, fashion shows, and talks with master artisans as part of the activities celebrating Mexico’s cultural heritage.

To keep the tribute to the first edition’s participants alive, distribution has already begun for the commemorative book of the 2024 Xcaret Mexican Folk Art Fair, a volume that beautifully highlights some of the event’s most iconic images. This book also includes a valuable record of each artisan, along with their pieces and contact details, making it an invaluable resource for anyone wishing to learn more about Mexican artisan talent.

All lovers of folk art and Mexican culture are invited to join in this celebration of the talent and creativity that define the country.
