For the second consecutive year, Grupo Xcaret and Educación para México (EDUPAM) are joining forces to strengthen capacities and promote self-sustainable development in Yalcobá and Sisbichén.
Nearly 200 children, teachers, and parents participated in activities focused on environmental education, art, culture, and regional traditions.
Xcaret, Riviera Maya, August 31, 2026. Sustainable community development requires building capacity so that communities can create their own opportunities. With this vision in mind, Educación para México (EDUPAM) held its 2026 Summer Course for the third consecutive year in the Yucatecan communities of Yalcobá and Sisbichén, with the participation of nearly 200 children, teachers, and parents. For the past two years, Grupo Xcaret has supported this initiative by offering workshops.
This year, the activities took place from July 6th to 17th. The Summer Course included arts and crafts, painting, and sports workshops led by EDUPAM, as well as the participation of Grupo Xcaret collaborators with activities developed as part of their support for the communities. This initiative is part of a broader educational effort that EDUPAM has been developing in both locations since 2023, offering courses in Mayan reading and writing, activities in epigraphy and Mayan mathematics, jarana workshops, and psychosocial support, among other actions that have contributed to reducing educational inequality.
This work began approximately four years ago, when the collaboration between EDUPAM and Grupo Xcaret was in a diagnostic phase. Thus, during 2022 and 2023, both organizations participated in identifying the main local educational challenges, a key process for developing the intervention strategy and laying the groundwork for the support that the Group has maintained in the communities.
Since this collaboration began, and more recently over the past two years, Grupo Xcaret has participated in workshops conducted in these communities by its employees. These workshops have included meliponiculture, focused on the care of the native stingless bee, and artisanal chocolate making. In the latter case, the workshop aimed to contribute to the recovery of historical memory and cultural identity by exploring the connection between chocolate and Mayan culture and how cacao cultivation was part of the peninsula’s traditions.

That’s why we focus on sharing knowledge and strengthening capacities that will endure over time,” said Iliana Rodríguez, Corporate Director of Sustainability and Institutional Dialogue at Grupo Xcaret.
Through this collaboration, Grupo Xcaret seeks to contribute to the well-being of communities through education, knowledge transfer, and capacity building, putting the expertise of its employees at the service of long-term community development.
