The Cancún Theater has announced a historic renovation of its technical infrastructure, featuring the installation of state-of-the-art lighting and audio systems that place it at the forefront of the industry. This modernization—representing an investment of over 8.8 million pesos—will elevate the quality of performances and cement the venue’s status as a cultural landmark in the region.
Carried out 25 years after the theater first opened, the upgrade includes high-performance LED fixtures that—thanks to intelligent control systems—deliver energy savings of 76% to 80%. The project also features a new power distribution board, refurbished acoustic panels, and a high-fidelity audio system that ensures clarity and precision for every note, spoken word, and sound effect.
One of the most notable achievements is the positive environmental impact:
Eighty-six halogen auditorium lights were replaced with LEDs, reducing power consumption from 5,275 watts to 1,028 watts (an 80% energy saving).
On stage, power consumption dropped from 115,000 watts to 27,128 watts (a 76% reduction).
In total, 200 halogen fixtures were replaced by 96 next-generation LED units.
Eighteen rigging points (ceiling anchor points) with a 500 kg capacity were installed to support various stage sets, alongside 300 acoustic panels designed to optimize the audio experience.
“The Cancún Theater is much more than just a venue; it is a cultural heart beating with the energy of our community. Today, we celebrate its technological renewal, but above all, we celebrate the audience that inspires us to keep the passion for art alive and to proudly share who we are with the world,” said Elizabeth Lugo, Executive Director of Parks, Tours, and Ferries at Grupo Xcaret. For her part, Paloma Herrero, Director of the Cancún Theater, highlighted the creative impact this renovation will bring: “The theater is a space where generations have dreamed, and this anniversary marks the beginning of a new chapter that invites us to dream bigger and to continue building—through art and culture—a legacy of inspiration and hope for future generations.”
With these improvements, the Cancún Theater reaffirms its role as a bridge between local talent and major national and international productions, as well as its commitment to providing exceptional cultural experiences for the community and visitors alike.
